Pictures from the C1117 prototype

“You are lucky if you take one, maybe two, good pictures in a year.” Ansel Adams

The prototype made its first picture on June 27, 2013, so there's still a little time left. Using a camera this size conditions you to think like a samurai: you don't even consider removing the camera from the case unless you plan on using it. It has travelled quite a bit already, but hasn't made very many pictures- I'm still getting used to the discipline of using a very large camera. Many of the size categories below do not contain images yet, but if you subscribe to one of the sharing options on the site, I'll let you know when they're updated.

I'd like to have a better selection of pictures than these, but it's an ongoing process- using a big camera, you tend not to come home with hundreds of pictures after a morning's shoot. The camera was a long time in the making, and this website took a long time to build, so hopefully there'll be more results soon.

Having such a broad range of sizes to shoot may seem unrealistic, and I'd tend to agree. Most people are happy with one format, but this is proof of concept. I built this camera to shoot 11x14 and 7x17, with the option to shoot a little bit of colour 8x10, if I needed to. The other formats are just exploration, some colateral constructiveness, for the moment...
